A step-by-step guide to the WPS salary file in Bahrain

Pragma editorial team · · 2 min read

Figures in this article are based on published guidance at the time of writing. Always check them against the latest official guidance before acting.

What WPS is

The Wage Protection System is Bahrain's mechanism for confirming that private-sector workers are paid in full and on time. LMRA guidance describes it as mandatory for private-sector employers and optional for household employers. Wages are paid by bank transfer, and the employer submits salary details through their bank.

Before you start

Make sure every employee's record is complete: name, identifiers, bank and IBAN, and the net salary for the month. Most rejected files come from missing or mistyped account details.

The monthly steps

The process is the same each month.

  • Finalise and approve payroll, including leave, overtime and deductions
  • Prepare the salary file in your bank's required format
  • Check totals against the approved payroll
  • Upload to your bank and authorise payment
  • Keep a record of the file and confirmation

Common mistakes

Paying a different amount from the payslip, including employees who have left, and reformatting files by hand are the usual causes of trouble. Each one is avoided when the file comes straight from the approved payroll.

How Pragma helps

Pragma generates the WPS file from the same approved payroll that produces the payslips, and checks for missing IBANs and mismatched totals before release.
